Typical installation would be for use in conjunction with a turbine style jockey pump or where the jockey pump is capable of generating pressures which exceed the working pressure of the fire protection equipment or system.
This valve is recommended only for use as a jockey pump relief valve, not a fire pump casing relief valve.

The Kunkle Figure 20 relief valve is an all bronze angle pattern liquid pressure relief valve with a pressure tight cap. The cap is removed to expose a drive screw and lock nut which is used to adjust the valve to the desired pressure setting.
(The Kunkle Figure 20 is neither UL Listed or FM approved and it is recommended that a Cla-Val 55L-60 be used for fire pump applications.)

They also have the same face-to-face dimensions and generally have similar horespowers.
Jockey pumps, or pressure maintenece pumps, are installed in a fire pump system to maintain system pressure due to minor pressure losses in non-fire conditions.
A rule of thumb is to size the jockey pump at 1% of the fire rated flow at a pressure equal to the fire pump churn pressure. For installations with a large amount of underground you may want to consider selecting a larger flow which allows for potential underground leakage.
